Jonathan Ross volunteers with tea and cake
If you are unable to commit to regular weekly volunteering you may be interested in a monthly volunteering opportunity and you can watch details about it on BBC1 today (Sunday) at 5.05pm (straight after Tiger – Spy in the Jungle and just before Points of View).
Jonathan Ross agreed to act as a volunteer driver to take 88-year-old Constance to her regular monthly Sunday afternoon get-together, run by the charity Contact-the-Elderly. They were very touched he chose to bring his 16 year old daughter along as well. According to the BBC, the car journey is hilarious, and the film helps bring a taste of the fun and laughter which take place at the tea parties. An estimated one million pensioners say they are ‘often or always lonely’ – Contact-the-Elderly helps to put that right.
Jonathan’s volunteering efforts were caught on camera as part of the BBC Lifeline appeal, which is due to be broadcast today, Sunday 20th April at 5.05pm on BBC1.
It will be repeated on BBC2 at 2.00pm on Wednesday 23rd April.
We are hoping that more people living in Gloucestershire will be inspired to give up their time for free acting as volunteer hosts or volunteer drivers. Once a month, groups of 3-4 volunteer drivers each pick up 1-2 older people over 75 and together the group go to the home of a volunteer host where they spend a couple of hours together with tea, sandwiches, cake and a chat.
